Do you know this type of dance ? French people used to dance it in symbolic places like the Moulin Rouge !
You can observe that we adopted an English way to say the name of this dance : French Cancan.
Well, it appears that the French Cancan dance started in London at the beginning of 20th century. Then, in France, the cabarets of Paris began to produce shows of it.
The dancers (only women) were acting on stage with a seductive attitude that later gave them a very bad reputation...
During the show, the Cancan dancers jump a lot and shake their dress with lovely and flashy colours (often red). It needs a lot of energy to dance it ! It conveys the ideas of joy and pleasure. đ
The place which made the French Cancan so famous was probably the Moulin Rouge where you can still book a show.

Dancers of French Cancan
The music used is specific to this dance with a repetitive rhythm. It gives a frenzied impression of rapidity ! đ¶
It is important to add that, at that time, it represented a way for women to free themselves from their partner. Indeed, it was the first time that they were dancing alone, expressing themselves !
If you have the opportunity to see a show in Paris, I would recommend it !
